Question: How do i get the ethernet cards to come up automatically on CentOS/RedHat/Fedora ?

This was a bit of a Doh ScenarioI installed CentOS 6 Server today and couldn’t (as a Long time ubuntu user) figure out how to make the ethernet card(s) come up when the system booted..

There might be a utility, but I don’t know what it is. You can just create/edit a file at/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 with contents similar to:

DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=static
ONBOOT=yes
IPADDR=192.168.0.199
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
GATEWAY=192.168.0.1

The same can be done for ifcfg-eth1 and other nics..
